Study Shows Air Pollution May Cause Higher Death Rates
Researchers in Britain studied death rates in relation to air pollution among certain British electoral wards. The study found that people 30 years old and above living in more polluted areas had higher death rates then those living in less polluted areas. The researchers also discovered a link between deaths from respiratory diseases and pollution. However, because the researchers did not take medical histories into account, the study failed to show that any of these deaths were directly caused from air pollution.
At Breathe California of Los Angeles County, or BreatheLA, through our Center for Healthy Lungs Program, we are encouraging research on pulmonary and lung disease caused by air pollution. (Los Angeles County is one of the most polluted areas in the United States.)
