Project Driveway Gears up for Clean Air Future

BREATHE LA takes part in GM Equinox Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive Event in Burbank, California

Want to be part of a clean air future? Who doesn’t? BREATHE LA staffer Julia Robinson Shimizu is taking part in a research and development project with General Motors, and had an opportunity to test drive the zero emissions prototype Equinox Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (EFCEV) in June 2008.

The vehicle is non-polluting, runs on hydrogen and emits only droplets of water from the exhaust pipe. julia and carJulia reports that the modified Chevy Equinox offered a peppy drive with a smooth ride and all the comforts of a mid-sized economy car. The Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle will appear on the market by 2012, when fueling infrastructure is expected to be in place. You can be a part of it too! Find out how to join Project Driveway.

EFCEV drivers in Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles have also been chosen for longer term test drives. Find out how to get on the list! Apply for Project Driveway membership.
