Ports Approve Clean Air Fee
Posted December 18th, 2007
Los Angeles Business Journal reports that the Long Beach Harbor Commission has approved a Clean Air Action Plan. The plan goes into effect on June 01, 2008 and is expected to generate up to $1.6 billion from a $35 fee charged to each truck loaded with cargo entering or leaving the port.
Funds will be used to replace the estimated 16,000 dirty diesel trucks in the area with newer, less-polluting models. A matching fee increase is expected to be approved by the Port of Los Angeles’ Harbor Commission later in the week.
