An oncology social worker presents information and skills for relaxing, navigating the health-care system, finding needed resources and coping with day-to-day challenges such as breathlessness. Issues related to the stigma of lung cancer, experiencing fear and anxiety, and keeping a positive outlook are also discussed.

  • Lung Cancer Alliance is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing patient support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for the disease. Our mission is clear: leading the movement to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering patients, elevating awareness and changing health policy.

  • American Cancer Society (ACS) 800- ACS-2345 or (213) 386-6102 ACS maintains a 24 hour/day hotline. ACS' Search for Local Resources database provides referrals to cancer-related services in your community, including health care services, support groups, assistance, information services, medical equipment and supplies, smoking cessation programs, and transportation. ACS' Cancer Survivor Network offers an online community of cancer survivors, families and friends. R.A. Bloch National Cancer Foundation 800-433-0464 or (816) 932-8453 National Cancer Hotline that matches cancer patients with cancer survivors, 24 hours/ day. Offers free books on cancer.

  • Cancer Care, Inc. 800-813-HOPE(4673) Immediate help with cancer and treatment information, one-to-one counseling over the phone, referrals to other support services (home care, childcare, transportation, pain management, entitlements) in your area, and free educational materials and programs. Cancer Care's Helping Hand Resource Guide database provides referrals to local cancer-related support services.
