Environmental Educator Internships
BREATHE LA is seeking Fall, Spring, or Year-Long interns for environmental education and outreach programs taught to youth and adults.
Environmental Curriculum Development –
Two-month position to develop 5-10 new curricula in environmental education as part of BREATHE LA’s O24u program for youth. O24u curriculum areas include Air Pollution & Environmental Changes, Health Effects of Air Pollution, Indoor Toxic Environment, Kids Can Make A Difference, Reduce/Reuse/Recycle, and Alternative & Renewable Fuels. All curriculum is aligned to California Environmental Education Initiative Principles (we can help align new curriculum).
Requirements: Minimum two years academic background in education. Teaching and curriculum development experience. Knowledge of environmental issues or sciences preferred. Experience in aligning curriculum to Environmental Education Initiative principles a plus. $500 stipend.
O24u Internships –
Position includes coordination and site visits to ensure quality of O24u environmental education activities for youth in participating afterschool programs. Area of focus is predominantly in Long Beach and South Bay, with potential limited involvement in Santa Monica. BREATHE LA uses a train-the-trainer method to educate and empower local site leaders. Ability to assist in curriculum development or evaluation. Afterschool partners include YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Long Beach Unified School District, City of Santa Monica, LAUSD, and new partnerships in development.
Requirements: Minimum two years background, academic or professional, in environmental policy or education. Stipends available plus reimbursement for mileage.
Environmental Educators –
Bilingual position involved in coordination, outreach and presentations to low-income communities and afterschool organizations, providing greater awareness and education. BREATHE LA uses a train-the-trainer method to educate and empower local community leaders. Position involves visiting schools and community organizations in South LA, South Bay, and surrounding areas.
Requirements: Bilingual, Spanish fluency preferred. Minimum two years background, academic or professional, in environmental policy or education. In process or completion of Graduate degree preferred. Stipends available plus reimbursement for mileage.
