BREATHE LA Joins SmokeFree Apartments Coalition to Provide Info and Choice

BREATHE LA announced today an official affiliation with SmokeFree Apartments.

BREATHE LA is a force in the fight for a smoke free community. BREATHE LA Director of Research, Policy and Planning, Pat Etem, has served with coalition efforts to ban smoking in Los Angeles as a Public Health professional since 1995 and with BREATHE LA since 2005. BREATHE LA is proud to formalize this long-standing relationship by joining forces with Smoke Free Apartments. The partnership builds upon BREATHE LA commitment to support the battle for smoke-free environments which ensure overall cleaner air in Los Angeles County.

What is BREATHE LA doing to make that possible?

BREATHE LA works to advocate for clean air in Los Angeles county, and to raise awareness of clean air and lung health issues. Remember, the human body can go for days without food or water, but only moments without air. BREATHE LA O24U Environmental Education program for youth provides schoolchildren with hands-on learning experiences that promote clean air! BREATHE LA Asthma Lung Power is an Asthma Management Program for children in afterschool / school break day camps and is administered by Licensed Respiratory Therapists in Los Angeles County.

What does "SmokeFree Apartments" Mean?

BREATHE LA has been a long-time supporter of The Campaign for Smoke-Free Choice in Multi-Unit Housing which has been together as a group since the end of 2003. The group's 2005 Conference at USC, "Smoke Free Choice: A New Amenity in Multi-Unit Housing" provided valuable information and resources to the community on this sensitive topic.The Coalition works to frame the issue as one of fairness to smokers and non-smokers, including non-smoking sections in single apartment buildings and non-smoking buildings in apartment complexes.
