Actions Speak Louder Than Words: What You Can Do to Make a Difference
Kids Can Make a Difference For Clean Air
Throughout the nation, kids are taking control of their environment:
TREE PEOPLE
TreePeople is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the Los Angeles area for over three decades. They help nature heal our cities and offer sustainable solutions to urban ecosystem problems, focusing on three areas:
1. Training and supporting communities to plant and care for trees
2. Educating school children and adults about the environment with one of the nation's largest environmental education programs and we connect communities and families to the nature that surrounds them.
3. Working with government agencies on critical water issues.
Over 300 schools in L.A. County participate in TREE PEOPLE programs - that's over 200,000 students each year, with 10,000 kids coming to the headquarters in Coldwater Canyon Park for Eco-tours. And TREE PEOPLE has contracted with the County of Los Angeles to deliver Generation Earth, a program that supports teens to complete environmental projects.
Tree Musketeers
Inspired by third graders in 1987, TREE MUSKETEERS is the nation’s first youth environmental organization–a nonprofit charity where kids are boss! Since that time, kids and teens have helped to grow Tree Musketeers from a local tree planting project to a national youth environmental movement. The President of Tree Musketeers is Angelica Roque, who became its president when she was 13 years old. Tree Musketeers are a nonprofit organization locally based in El Segundo, CA. While taking action to help the planet, kids teach other kids to become active citizens and community leaders. Neighborhood by neighborhood, kids can rescue Earth!
Kids 4 Hydrogen
Kids 4 Hydrogen is a non-profit organization founded by Jaclyn D’Arcy, a youth advocate in Santa Cruz, California. Kids 4 Hydrogen was created to educate students and adults about why hydrogen should become America’s energy choice for the future. This organization believes that we can no longer depend on using petroleum fuels (like gasoline) to power the vehicles we use every day. Kids 4 Hydrogen believes we should rely only on clean energy, such as hydrogen. Unlike gasoline, hydrogen does not produce pollutants that are bad for you to breathe. Kids 4 Hydrogen provides students with updated information about new government policies, laws, and inventions that directly affect the future of our environment and the hydrogen economy.
KIDS F.A.C.E.
Kids F.A.C.E. is an international children’s environmental organization started in 1989 by 9 year-old Melissa Poe of Nashville, TN. The club was established to provide a way for children to be involved in the protection of nature and connect them with other children who shared their concerns about global environmental issues.
Kids F.A.C.E. currently has 300,000 members worldwide, and together they’ve planted over a million trees!
