Nicole Lorenzo
Nicole Lorenzo, who recently received her associate’s degree in respiratory therapy, has volunteered with Breathe LA since 2009. The work she does to help Breathe’s COPD outreach programs complements the professional training she received while in school. But, for Nicole, her interest in respiratory issues goes well beyond schooling and volunteering.
“My brother has asthma and my grandpa died of emphysema,” Nicole says. This personal connection inspires Nicole to help people learn about COPD and asthma, and to teach them how to properly treat and monitor their condition.
Nicole does data analysis in Breathe LA’s offices and assists Breathe LA with COPD and asthma workshops, and community health fairs. She is there to answer questions about the conditions and offer tips on how to improve the quality of life through proactive management techniques. Her experience at Breathe LA has opened up a new realm of professional possibilities. Nicole hopes that by continuing her education and continuing volunteering at Breathe LA she’ll one day become a public health educator.
“Breathe LA is very active and works hard in reaching out to people and being involved in the community,” Nicole says. “It’s very inspiring when people learn more about their condition and how to treat it."
