Mexican American Opportunity Foundation
The mission of the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) is to provide for the socio-economic betterment of the greater Latino community of California, while preserving the pride, values and heritage of the Mexican American culture. This is accomplished through programs in early childhood education and family services, job training, and senior lifestyle development throughout the multi-cultural communities MAOF serves.
MAOF, which serves over 100,000 people, 95 percent of which are in the low to moderate income level, is a partner with Breathe LA's Energy Saving Program. The environmental education program teaches people how a few simple adjustments in lifestyle can lead to lower electric bills and help contribute to cleaner air. One of MAOF's goals is to provide programs that create jobs and save people money, which helps keep families together. Breathe LA estimates annual financial savings for the Energy Saving Program to be from $600- $900.
"The financial savings alone would be worthy of sharing with our participants, however the program also addresses environmental impacts, health and safety benefits, and creates awareness in our community through education," says MAOF Community Outreach Specialist Carlos Cruz.
"MAOF is grateful that this kind of quality program exists. We are glad that Breathe LA works to protect community health and serves as a leader in the preservation of clean air, energy efficiency, healthy lungs and advocating for smoke-free environments."
