Testimonial:
Boeing is pioneering new technologies and innovative achievements in its quest to be a global good neighbor. One of its newest aircraft, the 747-8 freighter, recently became the first commercial jetliner to complete a transatlantic flight using a renewable aviation jet fuel. Closer to home in California, the company has forged a partnership with Breathe LA to foster environmental awareness in young students.

For the past several years, Boeing Company has offered financial support for Breathe LA’s O²4u environmental education program which works with more than 60 schools involved in the Long Beach Unified School District WRAP Afterschool Programs to teach children about the effects of pollution on the environment and on their lungs.

"Boeing is pleased to work with BREATHE LA to teach so many thousands of children environmental responsibility," said Jim Herr, The Boeing Company's Senior Manager - California Region for Global Corporate Citizenship.  "Boeing recognizes that climate change and pollution are serious global concerns and has set a clear strategy to take action as a responsible corporate citizen and neighbor. Locally, Boeing looks for investments that address the overall focus area objectives in ways that are unique to the California communities we serve."

Last year, 11,000 children participated in the Long Beach area.  To highlight one area of measurable impact, 83 percent of the children involved reported taking on at least two new sustainable practices at home.  During the current school year, an additional 10,000 children will participate in the program.  Through O24u, children will participate in a variety of activity-based curriculum that has been aligned to California academic standards for environmental education.
