Asthma is a chronic condition that can make it difficult to breathe due to inflammation or narrowing of the lung passages. BREATHE LA is dedicated to improving the quality of life of those with asthma by providing information and resources to ensure proper management of the condition's triggers and treatments. BREATHE LA Center for Healthy Lungs research goals include effective interventions leading to a cure for asthma. BREATHE LA thanks all who offer hope, guidance and insight on how to live a full life with asthma.

COPD

COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and is the leading cause of disability and the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, killing 117,000 people annually. BREATHE LA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those suffering with COPD, a classification of lung diseases, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that make breathing extremely difficult. In patients with COPD, the airways of the lungs thicken, close and may also fill with mucus, thus reducing air flow.

Welcome to the Lung Cancer group, dedicated to providing information and resources on Lung Cancer, with a special section for women. Lung cancer kills more women every year than breast cancer. We encourage you to share your experiences on these pages and welcome your input.

Lung cancer is a disease in which cells divide rapildy to produce excess tissue that forms a tumor.

There are two major types of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer.

Each type of lung cancer grows, spreads, and is treated differently.

Trudeau Society

Trudeau Society is made up of Thoracic Surgeons, Pulmonary Physicians, and allied health professionals such as Respiratory Therapists and RNs. The Trudeau Society meets several times each year for Sam Sills Speakers series and for Grand Rounds. Speakers include esteemed lung health professionals and speakers series evenings are held at host locations including UCLA and Barlow Respiratory Hospital.
