"SMOKING BAN" SAYS PARKS - "HOORAY!" SAYS BREATHE LA

BREATHE LA applauds Councilmember Bernard Parks for proposing a comprehensive ban on smoking in Los Angeles. Presented for consideration by Los Angeles City Council, the ban would make it illegal to smoke in any public place in Los Angeles. This could save lives, and improve the quality of life for countless Los Angeles residents and workers. Tobacco is harmful to the health of smokers and contributes to air pollution.

World No Tobacco Day Event at BODY WORLDS 3

BREATHE LA’s 4-U-N-I youth peer-to-peer smoking prevention group is promoting World No Tobacco Day in conjunction with Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 3 exhibition’s “I Quit” smoking cessation program on May 31. The event, which will feature student representatives from Beverly Hills High School’s 4-U-N-I chapter, lung health professional Dr. Giovanni Smith, and kid-friendly activities from Radio Disney, takes place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the California Science Center.

Nonsmokers Inhaling Fumes Decline with Smoking Bans Says CDC Report

Nearly half of nonsmoking Americans are still breathing in cigarette fumes, but the percentage has declined dramatically since the early 1990s, according to a government study by Centers for Disease Control.
