Activity: Fun Picture Frame Using RECYCLED Materials
O24u Facilitators' Guide Module 5: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse
Activity Time:
45-60 minutes
Required Materials:
- A (clean) Styrofoam tray
- Colored tissue paper
- Glue stick
- Varnish (optional)
Learning Objective:
- Incorporate reused materials into new crafts
Procedure:
- Draw an outline of an object on the tray and cut it out. (The example shows a fish, but any shape can be used, such as a heart, circle, or star.) The shape should be a little smaller than the photograph you want to frame.
- Cut different-colored tissue paper into little pieces.
- Using a glue stick, glue both sides of the tissue paper to the tray so that they overlap a little.
- Also cover the fish cut-out, which will serve as the frame’s stand.
- After you’ve covered the frame and the fish, varnish both.
- Let the pieces dry, then glue the fish to the back and use it to hold up the frame.
- Attach the photo to the back of the frame with adhesive tape.
Discussion:
- What recycled materials did you use?
- Is Styrofoam recyclable?
- What is Styrofoam?
- Where do you find it?
- How can we reduce our usage of Styrofoam?
