BREATHE LA PSA Contest Winner Announced for Lung Power Film "Emily Has Asthma"

Los Angeles - UCLA Extension Student Film maker Micheal Rutherford was awarded first prize for his winning entry in BREATHE LA PSA film contest, "Emily Has Asthma." His 30-second PSA presents an emotionally appealing message on how children can take control of their asthma. Highlighting Lung Power technique developed by BREATHE LA Center for Healthy Lungs, children learn simple steps to communicate about asthma symptoms with their caregivers.

 

Michael Rutherford Wins BREATHE LA PSA film contestRutherford was presented $1,000 award check at BREATHE LA headquarters in Los Angeles by Board Member Robert Berliner and BREATHE LA President/CEO Enrique Chiock.

Transitioning from a career in advertising, Rutherford is pursuing a film career through studies at UCLA Extension Certificate Program. He was moved to create and submit his PSA after seeing the logo for BREATHE LA Lung Power, which incorporates an image of a young girl flexing her muscles.

"I thought, that's really a great message of empowerment to provide to children with Asthma. They can learn this and take control and enjoy a full life."

Rutherford lives in Los Angeles County with his growing family.
