BREATHE LA Emergency Health Alert - Fill Prescriptions Protect Lung Health Stay Indoors as Much as Possible

Autumn's raging fires throughout Southern California and the San Fernando Valley, coupled with the summer earthquake centered in Chino Hills, CA on July 29, 2008 served as stunning reminders that patients with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions must prepare by having prescriptions filled and on hand. Be sure to refill and update all prescriptions regularly so that when fires break out and potential for lung health emergencies increase, medication management can continue uninterrupted. Contact your health care professional for details and be sure you have your medication within reach.

Keep prescriptions, inhalers and emergency medication updated and filled. Keep a copy of your prescriptions in your emergency kit so you can grab them if you are evacuated or affected by disaster. Keep a mask, bandana and other protection in your emergency kit to cover your mouth and nose to protect from inhaling particulate matter and lessen the effect of smoke and fumes.

If you do not live in an evacuation or fire zone, and suffer from Asthma, COPD or other respiratory illness, remain indoors with windows closed as much as possible.

If you are required to evacuate or must drive through smoke-filled areas, keep your car windows rolled up and your air on re-circulate.

BREATHE LA cares about your lung health. If you need additional information, contact us.
